Longer days and the retreat of snow from the lawn make me feel creative. I’ve been surfing Pinterest, which is a haven for gorgeous photos and links to just about anything you want. I attended a workshop with the Sipsters Sisters at the Creativ Festival in October 2011. Bought the books and the product – can’t wait to use them soon. The samples that Beth had available were gorgeous – vibrant colours, excellent sewing, very usable and do-able. The technique can be applied to garment embellishments, home decorating – anywhere your imagination takes you!

Last week, I attended the Ontario Library Association Super Conference at the Metro Convention Centre. There were over 4000 delegates registered from Canada and the US – an amazing assembly of dedicated, energetic professionals. One of the after lunch sessions was a talk by Neil Pasricha, author of The Book of Awesome and two follow-up bestsellers. Now anyone who’s ever been to a conference knows that the post-carb-laden lunch time slot is the most challenging, especially in a dimly lit room of strangers. But there was no lethargy, because Neil is a dynamic, engaging presenter. I’d heard him speak before, at Word on the Street, before he became uber-famous. You know something? It’s the kind of day when it’s hard to stay focussed. I know I should be working on my novel. Or finishing off the insurance company reimbursement forms for our therapeutic massages. Or going through my stash of sewing fabrics and beads and actually making something. Don’t feel like it. The siren call of the new crop of ^%$#@! dandelions is calling to me. Why can’t scientists invent something non-toxic and biological that actually works to control certain species of noxious growing things? No, I’m not gonna make dandelion wine. I’ve tried it, didn’t like it. Why would I, do all that work for something mediocre on the tongue when I can buy fabulous beverages at the LCBO down the street? By the way, I picked up…
