There may be no entries until Sunday night. We’re out of town at a family ‘thing’ – a celebration of my late uncle’s life. I’m not sure I’ll be in the mood to blog. But I’ll catch up.

I’m staying on track. Not eating too much of the wrong things, trying to move more. I know I didn’t drink enough fluids today. What I’d really like is a beer. Frosty, dark, Belgian beer. But hey, I’m going to have a treat. Some friends from our Writers’ Community will be over for a potluck dinner tonight. I constructed a vegetable lasagna. Instead of the creamy cheesy bechamel sauce, I whipped up two cartons of 2% cottage cheese with some garlic, chili peppers and a handful of Parmesan. I used only 3 layers of fresh noodles. Two huge bunches of red and green chard, sauteed in a bit of oil and garlic, a layer of thinly sliced carrots, some steamed broccoli. And fresh chunky…

My brothers and I are leaving Friday morning to drive to Montreal to my uncle’s funeral. Uncle Ken was 87 and until about a year ago, was a robust, fun-loving man who could make anyone laugh. He always had a wisecrack or corner-of-the-mouth comment about everyone and everything. He was the second oldest after my mother. The only boy who survived out of three. He had three sisters, one older – my mother – and two younger. Those were hard times. My grandpa was a sleeping car porter – one of the few occupations a black man could get in those Depression days. My grandma worked wherever she could. Both parents dies when my mother was 19. My youngest aunt was 9 at the…
My fitbit #Fitstats for 1/14/2014: 6,957 steps and 2.9 miles traveled. Today was weigh-day. I forgot to do it before I jumped into the shower, but I made sure I dried off extra well before stepping on the scale. Didn’t want any water weight messing up my results. Down 2 pounds last week. Two pounds. My goodness, but that felt good. I am even more motivated than ever. Interesting thing happened at a work meeting today. As we were finishing off, I asked the man across the table if he was wearing a FitBit Force on his wrist. He looked surprised that I knew what it was and said yes. The IT guy two seats down from me started talking about steps and sleep…

I am sooo thrilled with my FitBIt. I was able to link the FitBit dashboard and it will automatically post my stats. These are for yesterday: My fitbit #Fitstats for 1/13/2014: 811 steps and 0.3 miles traveled. I opened up the package when I got home around five o’clock, did the set up and plugged it in to charge. Even for the short time I wore it, I racked up a few hundred steps. I wore it last night to track my sleep patterns. I only had about 8 minutes of restless sleep (I got up to go to the bathroom twice). We’ll see what the results are from tonight. Recording my food and beverage intake on My Fitness Pal is so easy. I…
