I’m on YouTube. No pets, no costumes or instruction videos about fake nail decorations, hair removal or vehicle maintenance. Just me, talking about my debut novel, Kenora Reinvented.

I was asked a while back by the Writers Community of York Region if I wanted to submit a video about my novel and perhaps read a few pages in honour of Culture Days. The festival of arts and culture lasts for a few weeks, so why not visit their website and have a look?

I thought about it for a few days because the only videos I’ve done so far are short story clips on Instagram, mainly of me lifting weights or working out.

But then I figured, why not? It’s coming up to the 1-year Bookversary for my book and even with Covid restrictions, folks are still reading books. Marketing is a must. I wrote out a short script but decided not to do a reading – having viewers look at the top of my head while I had my face in a book didn’t seem very interesting.

Making the video was easy – I set my iPhone on a tripod, tested the lighting, hooked up a lavallière microphone and hit record. I think I had to do two takes before I was satisfied enough to fire off the finished product.

You can purchase the ebook and print version from Amazon.

Ebook copies are available through the Draft2Digital group of companies that includes Chapters, Barnes & Noble, Hoopla and a host of online book retailers, etc.

So yes, I’d like you to buy my book! Give it as a gift. And please leave a review.

Maybe I need some actor training if I’m going to do the store often. I noticed a while back I have this odd tic where I close my eyes and scrunch up my face while I’m talking. I’ve tried to practice and stop but unbeknownst to me, it’s my schtick and I have trouble changing that.

Nevertheless, I am genuinely excited about my first published novel. I really like the characters and the situations they encounter. I’ve been sporadically working away on book 2 in the Kenora & Jake series, called The Fifth Man. More mystery, intrigue and seasoned romance but this time, I’ve included a few international trips so show Kenora off in environments outside her normal milieu.
