Today dawned grey, muggy and totally uninspiring. It’s a week before summer officially ends – what happened? Sure the lawns are lush and the weeds thick, but we haven’t had many romps – who wants wet feet? And there are the mosquitoes that descend in clouds whenever you stand still.

So I’m reminiscing about two weeks of glorious summer I had in Alberta during the Calgary stampede. The sky was a high clear blue, the mountains were sharp and pristine and the air dry and grassy scented.
