A few years ago I was privileged to be in the audience at the Ontario Library Association Super Conference to hear a presentation by Neil Pasricha, the author of the award-winning blog 1000 Awesome Things. He’s an amazingly positive, humble young man. He spoke about “The Four A’s of Awesome”. I’ve summarized them here.Attitude – have a clear philosophy, whether of life or for your work. Live it every day.

Awareness – embrace your inner three-year old. Remember the simple things, and the things that used to make you happy.

Alignment – what are the most important things that make you or your organization different from all of the rest?

Authenticity – be yourself and be cool about it.

Remember that the moments of our lives are counting down. Choose to make the most of them!

Neil’s advice is brilliant. Here’s a TED talk from 2010 in which he gently reminds us to take pleasure from every day. How we need to learn not to take the small things in life for granted.
